Erosion

What is Erosion? Erosion is the action of surface processes (such as water flow or wind) that removes soil, rock, or dissolved material from one location on the Earth's crust, and then move it away to another location. What causes it? Erosion is caused by many things, the two most common being water and wind. For example, If you left a big boulder outside in a very long rainstorm, when you came back it would look very different than it was in the first place. That is because water has been pounding at the rock for a long time, causing little bits to crumble away, Therefore changing the shape of the boulder. Now an example of erosion with wind. If you left a big rock at a beach for ten years, you would come back to see it changed shape. That is because the wind has been carrying sand to smash against the rock for ten years. When I say smash, I mean a little handful of sand. The sand will have then been eroding the rock away. If you are wondering what happened to the rest of the rock, it turned into sand and was blown all around the beach and who knows where. How can we prevent erosion or slow it down? One way to prevent erosion is this. Imagine that you have a little house on the beach, and all of a sudden it comes crashing down. That is because the water eroded away the sand. Overtime, it pushed the sand back and back, and back and back, Until, there was no sand under your house!
One way to prevent this is to build a wall a few meter in front of your house. That will not completely solve the problem, but it will keep the erosion at bay for quite a long time. Erosion cannot be stopped completely, but it can be slowed down.
